I have changed the battery in the korg m1 and need to restore factory
presets. I have downloaded the correct file and instructions for doing so
from Korg.com. I also found some other instructions from other sites but
none of them match. Something is missing.
I have set all midi filtering to "enable", turned all memory protection
"off", have midi channel set to "1", I have tried the procedure with all
different "pages" showing on the m1 screen. I've tried it with the clock set
to "int" and "ext". The computer shows the dta being sent but the M1 doesn't
respond. Nothing changes when the m1 is powered off then back on.
The cables and output settings are correct, I can dump data from the m1 to
the computer wthout problems, so I think something is set incorrectly on the
m1 itself.
I've seen lots of posts asking for the same information but on good
answers....Anybody?? Thanks, kr.

If you have the factory sysex info [ and you can get it
anywhere on the internet], and the battery is installed correctly [
not upside down] you don't have to do anything to set the M1 up for
receiving.
The M1 is always set to receive info.
If your computer shows it going in, it should be there.
Keep in mind that after the transfer has completed, the
display in the window will not be different. Just click the UP button
once and then the DOWN button and you should see different sounds in
there.

Thanks for the reply.
I have only been able to find one site (Korg.com.uk) that has the sysex
file for the M1 factory presets. I'd try another version or another source
in case mine is corrupt but can't find any others.
The battery is ok. I've checked that plus all this:..

The transfer may not work for several reasons. Make sure the MIDI ports were
configured correctly on the software side. Also, make sure the MIDI cables
are plugged in correctly... IN plugs into OUT... OUT plugs into IN.

On the synth side make sure the synth's MIDI Channel is set to 1. On the M1
press GLOBAL and then the number 5 button. Make sure CH=1.

Also, make sure the memory isn't write protected. On the M1 press GLOBAL and
then the number 6 button. Set Program Memory Protect to off. Page up once
(PAGE+ button) and do the same for Combinations, and so on.

Also, System Exclusive needs to be enabled. To enable it on the M1 press
GLOBAL, then the number 5 button, and then the PAGE+ button. The display
should read MIDI FILTERING. Change the EXCL value so it reads EXCL:ENA.

Another possible problem is that the synth's memory maybe formatted
incorrectly. Most M/T-Series sysex files are saved in 100/100
Program/Combination mode. If your synth is set to 50/50 mode the transfer
may not take place.

Another possible problem may be the file itself. You may be trying to send a
corrupt file or one of incorrect size.

...with no luck. Any other ideas?? Thanks again, kr.
